Business Review* for Absolute Painting, Inc., McKinney, TX.

Update: The owner of Absolute Painting is a man of integrity, an honest man, and literally guarantees his work, and, although the company did not perform a professional service for us, Mr. Wes Stafish is an honest business owner and made every concession to ensure our 100% satisfaction. Mr. Stafish, thank you for turning a sour situation into a mutually satisfactory conclusion. I, as the homeowner, understand and realize that we are all human, subject to mistakes, have deadlines, numerous employees and responsibilities, and are constantly striving to make all parties happy. Although the following story is from my perspective of past events, I want the reader to know, without reservation, that Mr. Stafish is very professional and that he, as one of the few that I have conducted business with when things have literally gone from bad to worse, took 100% responsibility, was pleasant at each step and corner, and is a man of his word and is a professional that you can trust. We need more business owners like Mr. Wes Stafish. I highly recommend Mr. Stafish for any job or work, however small or large, that you need performed on your home or business.

My Story

Our newly remodeled kitchen, July 2013, of several thousands of dollars was absolutely devastated and destroyed by Absolute Painting of McKinney (aka Absolute Painting, Dallas) in a matter of a few hours in July 2013. It boils my blood just thinking about it! Absolute Painting RUINED my gift, the dream kitchen of a lifetime (fully remodeled and completed the day prior to Absolute Painting's disastrous deeds), for my darling wife, insomuch that my wife WEPT when she saw her gift, the dream kitchen -- from granite countertops, travertine backsplash, all new commercial grade stainless steel appliances, chandeliers, new cabinets and windows -- decimated by the most unprofessional painting that we had ever witnessed.

WE reside in Highland Village, TX, and retained the services of Absolute Painting, Inc., in July 2013, to paint our newly remodeled kitchen, and it was the most unprofessional business that we ever hired. My following remarks may be misinterpreted by some and even considered too harsh by others, but I am not too politically correct, so here's how the cow ate the cabbage. The result of Absolute Painting, McKinney, TX, was the destruction of my wife's dream kitchen!

We met the owner of Absolute Painting, Wes Stafish, and his presentation and bid was acceptable, his company was also touted with rave reviews, so we agreed to terms and hired Absolute Painting after discussing everything from colors (trim, walls, ceiling), types of paint, and all work to be performed. The date and time was set. Everything went downhill from here.

Although the agreement was signed two weeks in advance, we were greeted by two Absolute painters at our home on our set date at 10:10 am. The painters, however, were without paint and had no idea as to what paint was needed or exactly what area was to be painted. I thought it to be a joke. Kidding right? Two weeks with a contract in hand and to prepare and you arrive clueless, I thought.

The two men who arrived to paint our kitchen stated that the office manager, Absolute Painting, was also unsure of which eggshell paint we needed. I was perplexed since eggshell is a color and it was already in our contract. I called the office manager only to have her ask me if it was green or purple, and she concluded by stating that she had no idea what eggshell color was.

Although the lead painter soon went to Sherwin Williams to try to locate eggshell paint, he received a phone call from the office manager stating that "the foreman (no idea who he was) wanted the painters to quit for the day and try again tomorrow." I received the update from said painter at noon upon his return to my home. I was infuriated, because while one painter was figuring out eggshell at Sherwin Williams, the other painter had already prepped the kitchen and covered and sealed off everything, making the kitchen unusable for us. I was also upset because the company should have arrived with all agreed upon paint and supplies as stated in our written agreement two weeks ago. I called the owner, but my call went to voice mail. I then called the office manager and explained to her that Sherwin Williams currently had the exact paint (flat, semi-gloss, trim white, etc.) and that if she sent the painter again, he could purchase all paints. She agreed.

The painter made his second trip to Sherwin Williams and returned at our home at 2 pm with the paint that should have already been purchased prior to arriving at my home at 10:10 am. After spending the better part of the day locating basic eggshell, the painters commenced painting for 15 minutes, but now, 2:15 pm, it was their lunch time. The painting resumed at 3 pm.

The kitchen had been completely covered and protected by the painter who remained in my home while it took 4 hours for the company's other painter to purchase the eggshell paint, which, as I reiterated, should have arrived with the painters at 10 am. By now, while most professional painters would be nearing completion on our average size kitchen, Absolute Painting was just starting to paint.

The crew of two painters stated that the present paint would take 4-6 hours to dry. As a precaution, I immediately informed my wife to make hotel reservations for the night for her and our 3 year old son. My wife made last minute hotel reservations which cost us an unexpected $110.

The painters were in such a hurry to complete the job, they failed to apply any frog tape and after they removed all drop cloths and plastic covering, usually a step reserved when the painting is finished, they decided that they needed to paint for another 2 hours. Our completely remodeled kitchen -- with newly stained cabinets, granite countertops, travertine backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and two chandeliers and one pendant -- was now completely exposed and being used, to put it mildly, as a dumpster and receptacle for slinging paint and rapid rolling rollers across the ceiling and walls.

When I returned at approximately 6 pm, one chandelier caught my attention as it was obviously scratched (by a roller) and had white paint all over it, while the pendant resembled a painter's playground and it too was scratched and the base was covered in white paint. The other chandelier remained unscathed as the painters must have avoided round 2 in that area. Ironically, the lighting had been attached the previous night as it was the final phase before painting the kitchen.

Glistening fresh white paint now covered and damaged several of our recently mocha stained cabinets, travertine and its grout, portions of granite countertops, 1 chandelier and 1 pendant, and an exposed floor. The steel kitchen exit door was also kissed with white paint, as well as 6 kitchen windows. Our stainless steel French door refrigerator/freezer, meanwhile, had 3 globs of flat white paint embracing it.

Absolute Painting performed the worst painting I have ever seen in my life, stated my wife who stood in the midst of the kitchen in shock and awe as she viewed her dream kitchen covered from top to bottom in white paint. You better be glad that you had me and our son in the hotel last night, because I am so infuriated right now at what I see, continued my wife as she too awaited the face of the owner of Absolute Painting to grace our home for one final visit.

The owner, Mr. Wes Stafish, arrived the following day to review the work and to make amends. He apologized that the office manager failed to reply to an email by having the paint purchased in advance. The painting performed here is not satisfactory, said Stafish. He was also shocked at the poor quality of work from his employees. Lastly, the owner assured us, "we have won numerous awards from across DFW, so I am as surprised as you are."

Conclusion: Mr. Wes Stafish, as stated in the preceding update, was unaware of the havoc that particular crew had conducted in our kitchen. He was not aware of the outcome until we talked and his subsequent visit to our home, when Stafish witnessed the results firsthand. I understand that Stafish has a professional business with numerous employees, and, while he is conducting bids and has the weight of daily responsibilities associated with ownership and operation of his business, he can't personally oversee every jobsite and every action of every employee. But, he visited our home and too was not pleased with the outcome from his employees, and he, consequently, made commendable amends, and made me realize that he is honest, genuine, and someone that I can highly recommend to anyone for any job.
