The
proper noun for the common nouns
The Koine Greek word for "name" is onoma (neuter noun), and is translated 229x
in the New Testament. 12 of the 229 in the King James Version are translated plural as "names" (includes 2nd epexegetical
in Rev. 21:12 ). If there is plurality of names in Matthew 28:19 and in the grammatically similar John 14:13, then the plural
"names" must be applied. To be grammatically specific in both Matthew 28:19 and John 14:13, we need only to locate the proper
noun. Name (onoma) refers to the one who is speaking on both occasions.
In Hebrews 1:4, what name did the Son inherit?
The name of the Son is obvious, but the
scriptures also reveal the name of the Father (John 5:43; 10:25) and Holy Ghost (John 14:18, 26). Absent the stated scriptures,
however, is from Creator, Maker, Lord, God, Saviour, Redeemer, Almighty, to hundreds of other names and nouns. In the New
Testament, there are many masculine and neuter nouns and names, and even verbs, but the only proper noun and name is Jesus.
The name Jesus is the proper (masculine) noun,
but both Father and Son are the common (masculine) nouns. And while Holy is the adjective, Ghost is both common (neuter) noun
and synonym to Spirit. Jesus is the name of the stated common nouns in Matthew 28:19 and John 14:13.
