CAPTAIN GEORGE W. HAYS [HAYES] has raised a fine company of Calvary [2nd North
Carolina Cavalry Regiment, aka 19th North Carolina Regiment--State Troops] in
Cherokee, and CAPTAIN [JOHN W.] FRANCIS, a company of Infantry [25th North Carolina Infantry Regiment]. Jackson, Macon, and Cherokee have sent 1,000 men in defense of the South.
